Don't have access to a home or office Wi-Fi network?

You can connect your Airmonitor Plus using a mobile hotspot, making it ideal for use while travelling, in RVs, boats, holiday homes or other locations without fixed internet access.

What You'll Need

For the most reliable setup, you'll need two mobile devices:

  • Device A – A smartphone with a mobile data connection that will provide the hotspot.
  • Device B – A second smartphone or tablet with the Breathe Tech app installed.

Tip: Some Android phones can run both the hotspot and the Breathe Tech app on the same device. However, using two devices is the most reliable method, especially on iPhones.

Before You Begin

Please ensure:

  • The hotspot is broadcasting on a 2.4 GHz network.
  • You know the hotspot name (SSID) and password.
  • Your Airmonitor Plus is in pairing mode (the Wi-Fi icon should be flashing).

Step 1 – Turn On Your Mobile Hotspot

On Device A:

  • Enable your mobile hotspot.
  • If available, enable 2.4 GHz or Maximise Compatibility mode.
  • Make a note of the hotspot name (SSID) and password.

Step 2 – Connect Your Second Device

On Device B:

  • Connect to the hotspot created by Device A.
  • Confirm the connection is active before opening the Breathe Tech app.

Step 3 – Connect Your Airmonitor Plus

  1. Open the Breathe Tech app on Device B.
  2. Tap + Add Device.
  3. Select Airmonitor Plus.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions.
  5. When prompted, enter the hotspot name and password from Device A.
  6. Wait for the app to complete the connection.

Once connected, your Airmonitor Plus will begin uploading readings using your phone's mobile data connection.

Tips for a Successful Connection

  • Keep both phones and the Airmonitor Plus close together during setup.
  • Ensure the hotspot is using 2.4 GHz, not 5 GHz.
  • Temporarily disable VPNs or battery-saving modes on the phone running the Breathe Tech app if you experience connection issues.
  • For continuous monitoring, keep the Airmonitor Plus connected to a 5V USB power supply.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use just one phone?

Some Android devices support running a hotspot and the Breathe Tech app at the same time. However, the two-device method is recommended for the most reliable setup, particularly on iPhones.

Will using a hotspot consume mobile data?

Yes, but data usage is very low during normal operation. If you're travelling or have a limited mobile data plan, you may wish to monitor your usage.

Can I switch back to my home Wi-Fi later?

Yes. Simply follow the Resetting Wi-Fi Settings guide and reconnect your Airmonitor Plus to your preferred Wi-Fi network.
