Welcome to BREATHE|Smart air pollution monitor.

How does it Work?

BREATHE|Smart contains an accurate laser particulate sensor which measures concentrations of harmful particulates in the air around you. This is converted into an Air Quality Index and displayed on the screen so you can easily see the quality of the air you are breathing.

AIR QUALITY

This is the main screen and shows the current air quality. The colour of the text on the screen corresponds to the level of health concern. The LED lights on either side will illuminate in the same colours if activated so you can see the current air quality even if the main display is off. The colours and descriptions displayed are based on the US Environmental Protection Agency Air Quality Index (AQI). The AQI is a scale that runs from 0 to 500. The higher the AQI value, the greater the level of air pollution and the greater the risk to health.

AIR QUALITY INDEX (AQI)

The AQI is an index for reporting air quality. It tells you how clean or polluted your air is, and what associated health effects might be a concern for you. The AQI focuses on health effects you may experience within a few hours or days after breathing polluted air. For more information on AQI, see https://airnow.gov

Try to minimise your exposure to pollution:

  • Limit physical activity when air pollution is high.

  • Change your route. Exposure can be reduced by up to 50% simply by taking a side or back street.

  • If you are indoors, open windows. This may seem counter-intuitive but sometimes the air pollution indoors can be worse than outdoors.

AQI levels on BREATHE|Smart

The higher the number displayed on the device, the higher the amount of deadly particulates in the air that can be harmful to your lungs.

EXPOSURE HISTORY

BREATHE|Smart stores your exposure history for up to 30 days. This information can be displayed as the actual data or as a graph. The data is stored for 3 time periods, current day, previous 5 days, and previous 30 days.

BREATHE|Score

The BREATHE|Score is a longer term way to monitor your exposure to air pollution. It updates every hour with an average of your previous 12 hours exposure. The score starts out at 50 and changes each hour depending on the level of PM2.5 measured over the previous period.

The better the air you are exposed to, the higher the score will be. Try to get it to 100.

Your current BREATHE|Score is also displayed on the main AIR QUALITY screen. The percentage of the green circle displayed indicates the current score, e.g.,

USING BREATHE|Smart at home

Indoor air pollution can be worse than outside, even in urban areas. Use BREATHE|Smart at home to measure indoor air pollution and be notified when you need to ventilate.

USING BREATHE|SMART OUTSIDE

This is a sensitive product and is not designed for fixed installation outdoors. The monitor draws air into the inlet and through the sensor to measure particulate matter concentrations. It is therefore not waterproof, do not get wet or store in damp conditions as this may damage the monitor.

Use with integrated clip to affix to clothing or bags, or with included strap on bicycles and prams.

SAFETY AND HANDLING

  • This device is not user serviceable, do not disassemble.

  • Do not drop device from height or inflict high pressure on the case as this may cause damage.

  • Store in a cool dry place when not in use.

  • This product is not waterproof, do not get wet.

  • If the monitor or dock are used in a manner not specified, the protection provided by the equipment may be impaired.

This device contains a Class 2 laser. Receiving eye exposure from a Class 2 laser beam, either accidentally or as a result of misuse will not usually result in injury due to the natural aversion response. This causes individuals to blink and avert their head thereby terminating the eye exposure. Repeated, deliberate exposure to the laser beam may lead to eye injury.

Troubleshooting

If you experience problems with your monitor, it may need restarting. To restart the monitor, press and hold the HOME button for 10 seconds then release. The monitor will now restart and should work normally. This will not erase your history data or settings.

If you are still experiencing problems, contact customer support by emailing support@breathe-tech.com.
